Who we are and what this policy covers

Trade Secrets ("we", "us", "our") operates this website and online store at tradesecrets.ca (the "Site"), 101 Jevlan Drive, Vaughan, Ontario, L4L 8C2, Canada. This policy explains what personal information we collect when you browse the Site, shop, create an account, join our rewards program, write a review, or contact us, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We handle personal information in line with Canadian privacy law, including the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), and, where it applies, the privacy laws of the province where you live.

By using the Site you accept this policy. If you do not agree with it, please do not use the Site or give us your personal information.

The information we collect

  • Contact and account details: your name, email address, phone number, billing and shipping address, and your account login and preferences.
  • Order details: what you view, add to your bag, buy, return or exchange, the promotions and gift cards you use, and your order history.
  • Payment information: your payment method details. Payments are handled by Shopify and its payment providers. We do not see or store your full card number.
  • Rewards program information: your points balance, the rewards you redeem, and how you earn points.
  • Reviews and other content: the reviews, ratings, photos, questions and comments you choose to submit. Reviews are shown publicly with the name you give.
  • Messages to us: what you write or tell us when you contact customer service.
  • Device and usage information: your IP address, browser, device type, the pages you visit, how you reach the Site, and what you click. Your IP address also gives us your approximate location (for example your country), which we use to show you the right notices and to prevent fraud.
  • Wishlist: the products you save to your wishlist are kept in your own browser. They are not sent to us unless you tell us.

How we collect it

  • From you: when you create an account, place an order, join the rewards program, sign up for emails, write a review, or contact us.
  • Automatically: through cookies and similar technologies when you use the Site.
  • From our service providers and partners: for example Shopify, payment providers, delivery companies, and the apps we use for reviews and rewards.
  • From social platforms: if you tag us or allow us to use content you posted on social media.

Cookies and similar technologies

We use cookies and similar tools to keep the Site working, remember your bag and preferences, understand how the Site is used, and measure and improve our advertising. When you first visit the Site, our cookie banner asks for your choice about cookies that are not strictly necessary. You can change your choice at any time through the cookie settings on the Site or in your browser. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as a request to opt out of sharing for advertising. We do not respond to other "Do Not Track" signals.

How we use your information

  • To provide the Site and your order: to take payment, fulfill and deliver orders, handle returns and exchanges, and manage your account and gift cards.
  • To run our rewards program: to track points and rewards.
  • To communicate with you: to send order and service messages and to answer your questions.
  • For marketing: to send you offers by email or other channels if you agreed to receive them, and to show you our ads on other sites based on your activity on the Site. You can withdraw your consent at any time.
  • To improve the Site: to understand what works, fix problems, personalize what you see, and recommend products.
  • For security and fraud prevention: to protect accounts, orders and payments.
  • To meet legal obligations: for example tax and accounting rules, and valid legal requests.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only as needed:

  • Shopify, which hosts the Site and processes orders and payments, and the payment providers it works with.
  • Delivery companies, to ship your order.
  • Service providers and apps that work for us, such as our reviews app, rewards app, cookie consent tool, email provider, Instagram feed, analytics and customer support tools.
  • Advertising and analytics partners, such as Google and Meta, which receive information about your activity on the Site to measure and personalize advertising. Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask us not to share information for targeted advertising. You can opt out here.
  • The public, when you post a review or other public content.
  • Authorities or other parties, when the law requires it, to protect our rights, customers or others, or as part of the sale or reorganization of our business.

Shopify

The Site is hosted by Shopify, which collects and handles information about your use of the Site to run it and to improve its own services. Shopify is responsible for how it uses that information. You can learn more in the Shopify Consumer Privacy Policy, and you can exercise your rights over that use through the Shopify Privacy Portal.

Other websites

The Site may link to websites and social platforms run by others. We do not control them and are not responsible for their privacy practices, so please read their policies. Information you post on public or social platforms may be seen by others.

Keeping your information

We generally keep your personal information for as long as we need it for the purposes described in this policy, unless the law requires or allows us to keep it longer. In many cases we have to keep some or all of it to meet legal obligations, settle disputes, enforce our policies and agreements, prevent fraud or unlawful activity, or for other legitimate business reasons. When information is no longer needed, we securely destroy it or make it anonymous.

Protecting your information

We use safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information, and we choose service providers that also protect it. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong password, keep your login private, and avoid sending sensitive details through unsecure channels.

Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may be able to:

  • ask to see the personal information we hold about you;
  • ask us to correct information that is wrong or incomplete;
  • ask us to delete your information, or to stop using it, in some cases;
  • ask for a copy of your information in a usable format;
  • withdraw your consent, for example for marketing messages or non-essential cookies;
  • opt out of sharing for targeted advertising.

To use any of these rights, contact us through our Contact Us form. We may need to confirm your identity first, and we may not be able to act on a request in certain cases allowed by law, in which case we will explain why. If someone acts for you, we will need proof that they are allowed to. We will not treat you differently for using your rights.

Marketing messages. You can unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time with the link in each email. We will still send you service messages about your account and orders.

Complaints. If you are not satisfied with how we handled your information, tell us first. You may also contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or the privacy authority of your province.

Information processed outside your province or Canada

We and our service providers may store and process information in other provinces and countries, including the United States. When that happens, the information may be subject to the laws of that place, and we take steps so that it is protected as required by Canadian law.

Children

The Site is not meant for children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of majority in their province or territory. If you believe a child has given us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time, for example when our practices or the law change. We will post the new version here and change the "Last updated" date, and we will tell you in other ways when the law requires it.
