Nicki Minaj Collection by OPI – Swatches
OPI’s newest collection is boom, badoom, boom, BOOM for two reasons:
1) Bright colours, holographic bar glitter and a PURPLE Shatter
2) Well, it’s the Nicki Minaj Collection so you know it will be boom, badoom, boom, boom.
The best part is that you won’t have to wait another second to own one of these six Minaj-esque shades. That’s right, you can find Nicki Minaj Collection by OPI on our shelves (or on our cash counters) today—a month earlier than its expected release in January 2012. But before you visit our stores, take a look here to meet the collection’s three bright crèmes, two glitters and the newest Shatter.
Michelle’s wearing two thick coats of OPI Pink Friday, an opaque bubblegum pink, in the photo above. It leaves no streaks (hooray!), but it does leave behind a beautiful glossy shine.
She paired OPI Super Bass Shatter, a purple shatter with a shimmer, with Pink Friday. I really like how these two shades work together. Super Bass makes Pink Friday look less 5-year-old-princess and gives it a distinct edge. Don’t forget to make sure your base colour is dry before applying any colour of Shatter.
My best description for OPI Did It On ‘Em is a green apple lime with a yellow base. It’s very unique and bright, and seems more appropriate for a summer collection. Seriously, though, who makes these rules? I’ll be rockin’ Did It On ‘Em on Christmas Day.
If Did It On ‘Em is straining your eyes alone, pair it with Super Bass Shatter to subdue its brightness.
And now the polish I’m swooning over: OPI Fly. Wow. This electric teal blue is mesmerizing. Two coats. Quick drying time. Ultra glossy finish. Fly is definitely boom, badoom, boom, BOOM. You’ll want to check out this polish up close in person. It won’t disappoint.
If you want to see the electric blue peaking under Super Bass, ensure that you do not over-apply the Shatter. Less purple and more blue, please.
Shiny topcoats are making a come back (Essie Luxe Effects was a HUGE hit). OPI Save Me is a clear-based bottle of awesome, containing micro-glitter and holographic bar glitter. It’s a little tricky to work with—Michelle needed five (FIVE!) coats to achieve this coverage. And be on the lookout for glitter bars that hang over the tips of your nails; you should reposition them before the polish dries.
Shattering Save Me was quite difficult, and took a few applications and removals and reapplications to get it just right. So basically, it’s a workout. But once you get it right, this combination is interesting because everyone knows that there is more than what meets the eye (such as bars of glitter).
Finally, add some sparkle to the holiday season by adding A LOT of OPI Metallic 4 Life. I’m not kidding about the “a lot” part. Michelle says it took four coats to achieve this coverage. Metallic 4 Life needed 4 coats. How fitting. We’re thinking you could avoid that by adding a black base first (like OPI Black Onyx) and then adding one coat of Metallic 4 Life.
There’s a lot going on when you add a shatter over a glitter. And if you’re the type of person to like when a lot is going on, you’ll love Super Bass with Metallic 4 Life. Ensure the glitter is totally dry before applying the Shatter. You don’t want to have to remove the entire thing. Glitter doesn’t appreciate being removed. It will put up a fight.
And there you have it, three crèmes, two glitters and one shatter. Told you the Nicki Minaj by OPI Collection was boom, badoom, boom, BOOM.
