The secret behind Joico’s innovative KPAK Vapor Flat Iron
Joico KPAK has been an all-time fave with consumers and Trade Secrets staff alike, as seen from our Top 10 Hair Products of 2010 and Melissa’s go-to shampoo and conditioners. And now, Joico has introduced their new and innovative KPAK Reconstructor Vapor Iron that combines hair straightening and conditioning in the same gliding motion. Who would have thought you could actually decrease hair breakage and damage while flat ironing your hair? The secret is all in the ReconstRx VaporFuel, a revolutionary liquid with KPAK’s Quadramine Complex, antioxidants, fatty acids and botanicals that deeply penetrate and protect every strand of hair when heated.
When compared to the leading professional flat iron, Joico KPAK Vapor Flat Iron:
* Decreases hair breakage by over 40%
* Reduces color loss due to daily shampooing and thermal styling by 33.5%
* Minimizes curl reversion, even after 12 hours in 90% humidity
The Joico KPAK Vapor Iron has 1.25” vented ceramic/silicone hybrid plates, with one having the pores that emit the VaporFuel with the touch of an on/off button. Initially, I was concerned about the visible ridge in the plate but after use, my hair was super straight, glossy and soft.
According to Joico, the VaporFuel in the reservoir tends to require refuelling after fully straightening fine hair 5 or more times, whereas individuals with very thick hair may have to refuel after 2 to 3 times. FYI, the reservoir sometimes leaks a little, so ensure that you have a towel nearby. Also, don’t be scared if you hear a bubbling noise coming from the reservoir. That’s just the VaporIron heating up and preparing to reconstruct and protect your hair. If you choose not to use the VaporFuel, the iron still operates without it. However, it is important that you only use the VaporFuel formula in the reservoir, and no other liquid!
While the VaporFuel acts as a heat protector, users may use an additional heat styling product such as Joico’s Silk Result Thermal Smoother for added styling or protection. But, adding a base product may decrease the ability of some of the VaporFuel’s active ingredients to penetrate the hair.
As my last tip for this post, I’d recommend applying more pressure than usual when gliding the VaporIron down your hair to assist the formula penetration process and provide you with more control.
To try out the Joico KPAK Vapor Iron, select Trade Secrets / Glamour Secrets locations have it on promo for $149.99 (reg. $237.20) and comes with a 300mL bottle of the VaporFuel too. That’s a total savings of $87.21! Sah-weet! Offer expires April 29, 2011.

You should take photos of how your hair looked before AND after !!!
I always straighten my hair, surprisingly my hair is still healthy. My straightener is starting to go so this one’s looking really good. The only thing is the leakage that I’m a bit concerned about, definitely not a fan of a mess to clean up =/
Hey Joyce,
In terms of the leakage, it’s not like drips of liquid but instead, a slight wetness on your hands. You’ll definitely want to ensure that you close the reservoir properly to avoid leakage as well as keep the flat iron somewhat upright (don’t toss it around, be gentle). And as per your request, I will be updating the post sometime over the weekend with a before/after image!
