A good hair masque will reinvigorate and nourish your thirsty strands

I love to experiment with my hair colour, seeing how the change will affect my eye colour, skin tone, and overall style.  In the last two years I have gone from my natural brown shade to quite a number of colour combinations: blonde highlights, more blonde highlights, completely blonde, back to brown with some blonde highlights, dark brown with pink highlights, light brown with blonde highlights, and now completely red with several pink highlights.

Unfortunately, with frequent chemical processing comes the unfortunate accompaniment of damage to my hair.  But don’t fret, you can reinvigorate and nourish your strands (and make them love you again) with the following: a hair masque!

A hair masque is essentially a deep-conditioning treatment that helps to add back moisture, prevent damage and breakage, and leave your hair feeling soft and shiny. Masques are not meant to be an everyday aspect of your beauty routine; they’re more like a once-a-week treatment. Along with using thermal styling products prior to styling with my favourite CROC iron, it’s my New Year’s Resolution to make time for a weekly hair masque. Give one of these recommended masques a try after shampooing tonight:

  1. It’s a 10 Hair Mask: If you’re looking for a hair miracle, It’s a 10 is it! I’ve heard good things about this product from people with all types of hair. It’s been known to intensify and define curls as well as get rid of unwanted fly-aways.  Christal from Vaughan Mills recommends this brand.
  2. Sebastian Professional Penetraitt Repair Masque: Megan (from SmartCentres Orleans who we introduced here says that the Penetraitt “makes your hair feel like silk”! Its active repair system works wonders on dry, damaged and frizzy hair.
  3. Macadamia Natural Oil Deep Repair Masque: When I tried this product, I fell in love with the smell and feel of the product! Plus, this masque has the potency of both macadamia nut and argan oil! What’s not to love? Want to learn more about the Natural Oil line? Check here, here and here.
  4. DermOrganic Intensive Hair Repair Masque with Argan Oil: The DermOrganic line lets you jet away to the deserts of Morocco and experience a century-old beauty secret: argan oil, rich in omega-6, antioxidants and vitamin E. This product will not only strengthen your strands but it will also help lengthen the life of your colour treatment.  Definitely among our beauty favourites.

When applying the hair masque, read the back of the products for instructions. After shampooing, simply glide it through your hair and leave it in for the specified number of minutes. While you’re waiting for it to work its magic, I usually soap up in the shower to save some time.  Then you simply rinse it out of your hair like you would with any conditioner. Voila, you’ll feel like you’re in silky heaven immediately.

And for those with fine hair, you can apply the masque closer to the tips of your hair rather than your roots to avoid weighing your hair down.

What’s your favourite masque? Any great product stories to share on Eye Heart Beauty?

I also love Goldwell Ultra Rich Kerasilk treatment! It’s infused with Jojoba-Oil which leaves my hair feeling so soft, shiny and silky! Definitely a must-have for anybody with extremely dry and damaged hair :)
